Last week, GeekSmack reported on a rumored Apple media event that was set to take place on January 26th. Today, John Paczkowski over at All Things Digital has received credible information from sources within Apple indeed backing the prior report, although, he reports that the event was slated for Wednesday, January 27th; the day after it was initially rumored to take place. Could this be the very event where the mystical Apple Tablet, rumored to be called either the iSlate, iGuide, or iTablet, finally makes an official appearance?

For months now—and without Apple saying a thing regarding this device—the technology media has been abuzz with rumors, speculation, and editorials regarding the currently unofficial and unconfirmed device that, for all we know, doesn’t even exist. However, there just might be a good chance that the Apple Tablet indeed exists, considering that many credible publications and blogs have been reporting on it, not to mention a pretty significant figure, Kai-fu Lee—former Google China president—has jumped on the Apple Tablet rumor bandwagon, claiming it will be announced in January (a rumor supporting the supposed January 27th event), while also sharing the tablet specifications.

Peter, another All Things Digital blogger, has stated on December 23rd that Apple has told certain key developers to prepare versions of their apps that are geared to work on a device with a larger screen in time for an event in January. Not only is this an indication that the Apple tablet may be real, but it also indicates that it may utilize the iPhone OS, perhaps with some tweaks to accommodate the device’s larger screen.

Perhaps all the Apple tablet rumors are about as credible as speculation regarding the existence of Bigfoot, or perhaps Apple does in fact have a groundbreaking Tablet in store for us all. We’ll just have to wait and see.
