I was trying to install uxtheme and it says that my uxtheme.dll and themeui.dll have been tampered with. Is there any way I can restore these?

System Restore is the best way I think. That's why I think backing up the original files is always a plus. sfc /scannow could also do the job but I'm not sure.

I have the same problem. I have restored the original files (themeservice.dll, themeui.dll and uxtheme.dll) as well as restoring them to their original state; granting the exact same privilages as the other *.dll files in the system32 folder. I even restored 'TrustedInstaller' as the Owner of the three *.dll files as they were originally. But STILL, I get the 'Your theme subsystem has been tampered with'. What else needs to be restored? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The reason I want the UxStyle patch, specifically, to work is that I downloaded 'MacOS X for Windows 7 64bit by ZEUSosX' from DeviantArt. And using this patch was the first step in his very specific guide on how to install the theme. I have not seen a MacOS X theme for Windows 7 as good as this one.

I'd just LOVE to get my Windows 7 partition as closely resembling my Snow Leopard main partition as possible.

I'm afraid I can't fall back on any restore point, because I make it a priority to disable it as soon as I can after the Windows installation finishes. Much experience with this 'feature' has shown me that it never works as it's suppose to. In the end, it not only proves itself to be a big waste of time and hard drive space, but it also raises false hope that your Windows partition is going to be okay.

Any more suggestions on how I can bypass this prompt and move on would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Try running system file checker.

Good suggestion! I actually had no idea that command existed. I gave that a try in an administrator prompt window and it returned with MANY results in the log file. It didn't seem to work, however, because after I rebooted as it told me to, I ran the beta installer and the same prompt came up. :(

Alright, so I forgot I can just change the install conditions using MSI Editor - worked like a charm and I was able to get everything installed. The best part? Nothing broke and the theme is beautiful! :)

I'm having the same problem and I can't figure out how to restore the patches back. I can't restore my system because I patched my system too long ago and didn't have a restore point that far back. I'am not sure what to do now.Posted Image

SFC will restore the dll's that should be there and that are untampered with. If that doesn't work theres something wrong with your install and the disk is not legit.

You will have to restart the machine after using SFC.

Yeah I tired that, not sure if I did it right, but said it was completed or something like that? How will I know if it worked? Does it tell you what it replaced or something?

well if the install works after sfc, it has repaired something.
If it doesn't, you will have to look for some original dlls. somewhere.
If you don't find a solution I might look into sending you the files (if you have a 32 bit Win7- or Vista-system)

Installing themes is the easy part, put them in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\

Yes, with those you can replace explorer.exe but that is usually for different start buttons. If you do chooose to, make sure to make a backup. :P

Yeah that is a lot easier.
They can only be bitmap images which kind of sucks for the theme I'm trying to install, because it doesn't come with the start orb as a bitmap image.
This is the theme I'm trying to do incase it helps any lol http://djabytown.dev...style-156258911
