Editorial: Dear EU,

av170_thumb You know, for what it’s worth mixing politics with technology is no good, and everyone agrees when I say that the European Union is a bunch of idiots. While I’m certain they have people who know what they are doing, what they don’t know is how to deal with large companies like Microsoft. The one thing that most of us say, no matter where we are in the world is “Oh here comes the EU, with another set of things to pick on".”

So what’s the big deal, they’re doing their job right? Not really. Especially when it comes to tech, it isn’t their business, period. Since when did IE infringe on any international laws, and since when did Microsoft become the main target. If your going to be like that, let’s pick on Apple for using Safari is the native browser. It isn’t right and it isn’t fair to everyone to treat Microsoft like crap. The Linux guys have the right idea, include whatever browser you want. But the idea is this, if you don’t like it, don’t use it. Is that so hard? Even more so, the need for the N version (which already strips Windows Media) and this whole “Browser Ballot” is nothing but trouble in the making.

The question we’ve got to ask ourselves is this, do we want our governments getting involved with Operating System development and saying that feature x should not be in that OS? No, we shouldn’t. I’m sorry, but that isn’t cool, and no one’s going to care in the end, it just gives everyone more of a reason to not like you.

Put it this way, Microsoft has enough to worry about, making 2,000 different SKUs isn’t going to make it any better, it isn’t like we don’t have 6 main SKUs and god knows how many other country specific SKUs. Please, if you’re going to pick on anyone, go after Apple for all their patents on things that don’t make any sense.

Need I say more?
