NVIDIA|Facebook GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470, First GF100 GPUs

NVIDIA’s Facebook page was updated just minutes ago with some new information on the GeForce Fermi architecture. With a post that says, “Fun Fact of the Week: GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 will be the names of the first two GPUs shipped based on our new GF100 chip!”

Exitios, moderator from the NVIDIA Forums, confirmed the post as “legit”. The GF100 architecture is NVIDIA’s newest platform aimed at the high-end market. Is expected to make an introduction in Q2 2010, and is currently in volume production, as mentioned by Jen-Hsun Huang, NVIDIA CEO at the NVIDIA Press conference at CES 2010.

The GeForce Fermi series will be NVIDIA’s first DirectX 11 native GPU and will feature vast improvements over the GTX200 series. Including:

  • 3.0 billion transistors
  • 40nm TSMC
  • 384-bit memory interface
  • 512 shader cores [renamed into CUDA Cores]
  • 32 CUDA cores per Shader Cluster
