Sure, Blu-ray discs hold a lot compared to regular DVD discs (Blu-ray can currently hold up to 50GB, while standard DVDs hold up to 4.7GB). And sure, PS3 games are pretty awesome thanks to all that extra space thats there for resources in the games. But will 50GB be enough once bigger and better things come along?
Apparently not, because a bigger (capacity) version of Blu-ray is being made, dubbed BDXL (DS XL, anyone?). The extra-large version can store up to 128GB of data, while rewriteable versions can hold up to 100GB. The Blu-ray Disc Association claims that they will provide professional enterprises with a compact, stable and long term solution for archiving large amounts of sensitive data, video and graphic images using a proven and widely accepted optical technology. Of course, getting some of these new discs, along with the burners/readers would definitely leave a hole in your wallet.
Of course, losing one of these things would always suck. You can get the link for the full press release here.
