| Twitter, Facebook Recover From DDoS Attack |
| Internet |

After about 2 days of server instability, Twitter, Facebook, and a few other social networking services have risen from the off and on coma they were in due to a crippling DDoS attack. So yes, today you can tweet about those tasty waffles you’re eating, or plan out events on Facebook without fear of the services going down. What exactly caused this outage? Well, it’s personal, and political. A Georgian blogger who used the alias “Cyxymu” was apparently targeted in an attack to stop his voice from being heard by some unhappy readers. Facebook chief security offer told this to CNET:
While Kelly didn’t want to speculate on who could be responsible, it’s likely that this was done by Russians who weren’t happy with Cyxymu. As we all know, Georgian and Russian bickering has taken place on the web before in the form of site DDoS attacks and other forms of hacking, however, nothing like this that brought down such large and popular social networking sites has occurred in the past. Whatever the case, whoever did this was resourceful and managed to stir quite a buzz on the social networking scene. Relax, Twitter/Facebook addicts, it’s going to be alright. |
