It was only a matter of time before someone would unlock the Windows Phone 7 Series ROM image, giving you the capability to use the full OS, and one developer has done just that. Meet Dan Ardelean, the guy behind the unlock, supposedly hes pulled the link from his site, but hundreds of people have mirrored the files across various file sharing sites like RapidShare, and MegaUpload.
Within the emulator, it looks like there is just about everything in the image Dan released, while Im not entirely certain of what all is supposed to be in there, it looks and works just like the device.
If youre eager to get your grubby hands on Windows Phone 7, even just to try it, go ahead and grab the Windows Phone 7 Developer Toolkit which includes a specialized version of Visual C# 2010, with the capability to develop and test applications on the Windows Phone 7 Platform.
If you want to see this thing in action, Ive included a set of screenshots from the emulator, and might upload a video later on.
To get this to work, all you have to do is the following:
- Extract the RAR to wherever you download your files to
- Copy and navigate to C:Program FilesMicrosoft XDE1.0 (C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft XDE1.0 for x64)
- Open command prompt by typing CMD in the Run Dialog Box or go to All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
- Type XDE WM70Full.bin
- Enjoy!
