Compared to other smartphones such as the Motorola Droid or the Apple iPhone, Google never promoted the Nexus One through any other forms of media asides from the Internet. Perhaps this marketing strategy is at fault for the fact that only 80,000 Google Nexus One units were sold in its first month, with a mere 20,000 units being sold in its first week.
These statistics are gathered by Flurry Analytics, which gathers its information through over 10,000 applications on both iPhone and Android, and tracks how many new phone users download and use these apps. That being said, these statistics may not be an accurate figure of the actual amount of Nexus One purchases, but if its anything close to the actual figures, Google certainly should rethink how they promote the Nexus One and perhaps increase the advertising budget.
The Google Nexus One was created through a partnership between Google and HTC, and was officially released to the market on January 5th at the price of $179 with a 2-year T-Mobile contract, or $529 unlocked. The Nexus Ones specifications are listed below, quoting its official press release:
