Today, Adobe updated its product lines with betas of Flash 10.1 and AIR 2. The Flash 10.1 update is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, as well as x86-based netbooks. Major updates include multi-touch support, and support for several mobile devices, including: Android, Windows Mobile, Palm WebOS, and Symbian S60. The AIR 2 beta is available for Windows XP, Vista, and 7; as well as MAC OS and Linux.
Adobe has been cranking out the features lately. Perhaps its due to increasing pressure from Microsofts Silverlight platform. You can expect an increase in performance and functionality with both of these new builds.
Updates for AIR 2 include:
- Support for the detection of mass storage devices.
- Advanced networking capabilities like secure sockets, UDP support, and the ability to listen on sockets.
- Support for native code integration.
- The ability to open a file with its default application.
- Multi-touch and gesture support.
- New APIs for access to raw microphone data.
- Webkit update with HTML5/CSS3 support.
- Global error handling.
- Improved cross-platform printing
- Improved security and support for enterprise and government standards.
Adobe expects final releases of Flash and AIR 2 sometime in the first half of 2010.
